• Vaccination: Consult your doctor to get vaccination advice before your trip. This will help you prepare for diseases you may encounter in Indonesia.
• Rules and customs: Bali and Indonesia are culturally distinct from Australia, with a very different legal system as well. Familiarise yourself with local rules and customs such as wearing modest clothing at religious sites. Ensure you don't run afoul of any laws in Indonesia, as you could face extremely severe consequences.
• Weather events and natural disasters: Use the Smartraveller website to ensure you're aware of weather events and natural disasters that might affect your trip. Smartraveller is also a great resource for staying up-to-date on other events like security risks.

Here's an overview of the major travel documents Australian citizens generally require to enter Bali:

• Valid passport: Entering Indonesia requires a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry. Smartraveller recommends ensuring your passport has validity for 6 months after your date of leaving Indonesia, and that your passport is not significantly worn or damaged.
• Return or onward flight booking: Smartraveller also recommends having a return or onward flight booking made when you enter Indonesia.
• e-Visa on Arrival: If you're travelling to Indonesia for tourism or business meetings, you can apply for an e-Visa on Arrival. You should do this at least 72 hours before travelling to Indonesia.
• SATUSEHAT Health Pass: This electronic health declaration must be completed before entering Indonesia.
• Tourist levy: Bali has a tourist levy (or "tourist tax") of 150,000 Indonesia Rupiah per person. This is around AUD $15. This payment can be made online or on arrival.
• E-customs declaration: You must complete this declaration within 3 days of your departure to Indonesia.
