Get covered for emergency medical expenses in the Philippines

While the Philippines is an exciting destination, going there does carry a few risks you will need to be prepared for. With AllClear, you have cover for emergency medical treatment costs in the Philippines.

The Philippines does not have a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with the Australian Government (Source: Australian Government, accessed 05 Nov 25). If you need medical care in the Philippines, your Travel Insurance policy could be the only financial assistance you have.

Medical treatment in the Philippines can become very expensive for Australian visitors. Procedures like heart bypass surgery cost approximately $26,000-$29,000 (Source: Globe Newswire, accessed 05 Nov 25). If you have to spend multiple nights in the hospital, the costs can add up quickly.

With AllClear's comprehensive medical cover, you can travel across the Philippines with greater peace of mind. If things go wrong on your holiday, we’ll provide cover for your costs. We can also help cover repatriation and evacuation costs to bring you back home.

In addition, we offer a 24/7 emergency medical helpline. You can use this line any time to help find the right medical care for you overseas.

Travel safety tips for the Philippines

The Philippines might have a higher general risk than some Australians are used to. Here are some tips to keep in mind to stay safe on your trip:

  • Higher crime rate: The crime rate in the Philippines may be higher than in Australia. Try to be aware of your surroundings in public spaces and draw money in safe locations.
  • Travel warnings: Some areas of the Philippines may be a higher risk zone than others. Keep track of Smartraveller’s travel warnings to find out which areas to avoid.
  • Mosquito-borne diseases: Mosquito born diseases are a possible issue, depending on where in the Philippines you are visiting. Consult your doctor to determine if you need a vaccination before you leave.
  • Natural disasters: Natural disasters are a potential risk in the Philippines. Please follow local advice and pay attention to official warnings. It is also helpful to look at your hotel's evacuation plan.

What to do before travelling to the Philippines

A safe and fun holiday requires a few precautions before you head off. Here are a few steps you can take for a better journey:

  • Travel Insurance: Purchasing Travel Insurance is a crucial step to a safer, more fun trip. Be sure you understand what your policy covers you for, and follow all relevant conditions.
  • Smartraveller: Thoroughly review the warnings and safety advice for travel to the Philippines offered by the Australian Government’s Smartraveller website.
  • Consult your health professional: Before leaving Australia, be sure you have spoken to your health professional about your travel plans. Check if you need any vaccinations before you go, and how to manage your pre-existing health conditions while on holiday. You should also research if any medications you plan to take are not allowed in the Philippines.
  • Respect local customs: Be sure you are aware of important local customs. Dress appropriately in religious areas and behave in a respectful, non-disruptive way.
  • Emergency contacts: Be sure you know the right emergency numbers for the police and other emergency services, as well as the contact details for the Australian Embassy. In the Philippines, 911 is the general emergency number.

Top locations to visit in the Philippines

While you’re in the Philippines, be sure to stop by some of the island's most stunning sights:

  • Boracay: Take some time in this scenic getaway to enjoy beautiful sights like the White Beach, or visit Mount Luho to see the highest point of the island.
  • Manila: The Philippines’ signature city is a melting pot of different cultures, featuring a rich, fascinating culture with an incredibly unique history. Stop by the historic walled city of Intramuros, or start a shopping spree at the SM Mall of Aisa.
  • Cebu: This province contains the stunning sights of the Kawasan Falls and Tumalog Falls. It’s also where you’ll find one of the biggest cities in the Philippines, Cebu City, home to incredible historic landmarks.
  • Bohol: Enjoy an unmistakable tropical retreat in Bohol. On this island, you’ll find the iconic Chocolate Hills and the world's smallest primate, the Philippine tarsier.

Still have questions?

We're here to help!

Is Travel Insurance required to visit the Philippines?

Travel Insurance is not a legal requirement to enter the Philippines, but it is highly recommended. With Travel Insurance, you can enjoy your time in the Philippines with greater peace of mind.

AllClear offers cover if your trip is delayed or cancelled, if you are injured and require medical treatment, or if your baggage is lost or stolen during your journey. These are key areas where costs can arise if you don’t have the right Travel Insurance.

Do Australians need a visa to visit the Philippines?

Australians can enter the Philippines without needing a visa for a period of 30 days or less (Source: Smartraveller, accessed 05 Nov 25). Your passport must be valid for another 6 months, and you must have onward/return tickets for no later than 30 days from your arrival.

When should I get Travel Insurance for the Philippines?

You should get your Travel Insurance for the Philippines as soon as you've booked and finalised your trip. That way, you’re not just covered during your trip, but you’re also protected against the costs of sudden cancellation or delays to your trip.

What vaccinations do I need to visit the Philippines?

There is no vaccination you are legally required to get to visit the Philippines. However, several vaccinations are recommended, including a shot for Japanese encephalitis. Consult with your health professional to determine if you need vaccinations for the Philippines.

What does Travel Insurance not cover?

Standard Travel Insurance policies typically don’t include cover for pre-existing medical conditions. To ensure you’re covered, you’ll need to obtain a specialist Travel Insurance policy that specifically includes these conditions. It’s also essential that you declare all your medical conditions within the medical screening process.

Be aware that travel insurance may not cover claims arising from:

  • Reckless behaviour
  • Events you knew about before buying your policy

Take time to review your policy terms carefully so you understand exactly what is and isn’t covered.

Am I covered for riding a moped, motorcycle or scooter in the Philippines?

AllClear offers cover if you are injured while riding mopeds, motorcycles or scooters in the Philippines. General exclusions to this policy include if:

  • You are riding a vehicle with an engine capacity in excess of 125cc.
  • You fail to wear a crash helmet.
  • You don't have an appropriate licence.
  • You aren't insured under a motor insurance policy.

Be sure to check the terms of your Travel Insurance policy for further information.

How much does Travel Insurance cost?

The cost of Philippines Travel Insurance can heavily change depending on multiple factors. For example, the longer the trip is, the more it will cost, as there is more time for things to go wrong.

The cost of Travel Insurance will also be affected by the likelihood of medical expenses while you’re overseas. In addition, your premiums will be affected by your age and pre-existing medical conditions.
