What is Travel Insurance for asthma?
Travel insurance for asthma is a specialist type of cover if you have this pre-existing condition. Asthma is a common health condition affecting around 2.7 million people in Australia, and it’s worth seeking specialist travel insurance to give you peace of mind while travelling. An asthma-specific policy gives you 24-hour emergency medical assistance if anything triggers an asthma attack, or if your inhaler gets lost or stolen.
The key benefits of asthma cover with AllClear are unlimited medical expenses coverage, $1,000 “medical inconvenience” benefit on Gold Plus policies for when you’re in the hospital as an in-patient, and personal belongings cover of $7,000 on Gold Plus policies.
This is general advice only. Please read our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) to make sure this cover is right for you.
Levels of Travel Insurance cover
We offer three levels of cover: Gold Plus, Gold and Traveller. The Traveller product is only available for Single Trip policies. This is general advice only. Please read our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) to make sure this cover is right for you.
What does AllClear’s Travel Insurance cover?
Our Travel Insurance protects you against potential disruptions or unexpected events while you’re travelling the world.
What's covered?
Costs of tests, medications, and procedures needed to treat an illness or injury while travelling. You’ll also be covered for repatriation to bring you safely back home.
Cover for flight and accommodation costs if an unexpected event means you have to cancel your trip before you go.
Cover for emergencies that force you to return home early.
Compensation for extra costs if your flight is delayed.
Insures your baggage and its contents against loss or theft.
Cover for legal costs to claim compensation for incidents during your trip.
Our Seniors Travel Insurance policies have no upper age limit. We believe everyone deserves to enjoy a holiday with the right cover, regardless of age.
What’s not covered?
For most claims, you won’t be covered for the travel insurance excess (the first part of any claim).
Your cover is limited to trips within the designated region of cover you chose, whether that’s Australia or overseas.
Claims related to events or issues that you knew about before buying the travel insurance or before booking any individual trip are not covered.
You need to declare all your medical conditions. If not, we won’t be able to cover you for any unexpected treatment connected to known health concerns.
We know that plans change, but you’re only covered for cancellation if the reason is within the policy terms and conditions.
This is general advice only. Please read our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) to make sure this cover is right for you.

How to declare your asthma
It’s essential to declare your asthma when completing your quote so that you’re covered for any asthma-related complications you could potentially have while you’re away.
As part of our medical screening process, you’ll be asked to provide information about your previous and current state of health. There are a few easy-to-answer questions about your personal details and then you move on to the pre-existing medical conditions section where you answer questions on recurring illnesses, ongoing or lifelong conditions, previous surgeries and any conditions you’re currently living with.
This information will then be used to determine your premium (the amount of money you pay for your insurance). Our bespoke system then generates a quote that will give you a price based on your review.
Questions you’ll be asked if you have mild asthma:
- Have you ever had a diagnosis made of COPD (e.g. chronic bronchitis or emphysema)?
- How old were you when asthma was diagnosed?
- How many medicines are prescribed for your asthma (count each inhaler as one medicine)?
- Do you use nebulisers as part of routine maintenance of asthma?
- How many hospital admissions have you had for asthma in the last year?
- Have you ever been prescribed oxygen other than when you are in hospital?
- Have you ever been a smoker?
Questions you’ll be asked if you have Cardiac asthma:
- When did your symptoms start? (e.g. breathlessness or ankle swelling)
- How many medicines do you take for this condition?
- How short of breath do you get when you are walking on the flat?
- Can you lie down flat without becoming short of breath?
- How many unplanned hospital visits have you had for this condition in the last 12 months?
- Have you ever been prescribed oxygen other than when you are in hospital?
- Have you ever been a smoker?
- Have you ever had angina or a heart attack, or been told that your coronary arteries are narrowed?
