Some major reasons to get Travel Insurance for India include:
- Peace of mind: Visiting India can require a certain degree of caution that Australians might not be used to. The right Travel Insurance allows you to relax and enjoy your journey.

- Travel disruptions: If sudden events force you to cancel or delay your trip, Travel Insurance will cover the cost of delays and cancellations.

With Travel Insurance, you have cover against trip cancellations and delays caused by natural disasters if it is included in your policy, and your holiday provider does not offer an alternative.
- Lost or stolen belongings: AllClear can provide cover if your personal belongings are lost or stolen while travelling.
- Outdoor activities: There are plenty of incredible outdoor adventures to experience across India. If you are injured while participating in a covered outdoor activity, Travel Insurance can cover the cost of medical treatment.

Get covered for medical emergency expenses in India
While India is an incredibly exciting destination, travelling there does present a few risks you will need to be prepared for. With AllClear, you have cover for emergency medical treatment costs if you experience a personal accident in India.
India does not have a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with the Australian Government (Source: Australian Government, accessed 05 Nov 25). If you need medical treatment, your Travel Insurance policy could be the only financial assistance you receive.
Hospitals in India can be relatively more affordable than being treated in Australia. Intensive surgery, such as a heart transplant, costs AUD$33,267 in a private hospital (Source: Yashoda Hospitals, accessed 05 Nov 25). For travellers without insurance, these costs are still significant.
However, facilities in rural or remote areas can be limited, and medical evacuation can become very costly. With AllClear’s comprehensive medical cover, you can travel across India with less stress.
If an incident occurs on your holiday, you will receive cover for your costs. This includes repatriation and evacuation costs to bring you home. AllClear also gives you access to a 24/7 medical helpline. You can use this line any time to help find the right medical care for you overseas.
With AllClear, you’re able to explore this beautiful country with greater peace of mind.

Travel safety tips for India
Here are some tips to stay safe on your holiday to India:
- Natural disasters: Natural disasters you could encounter in India include heatwaves, floods and landslides. Make sure you carry and store your passport in a waterproof container. Monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities in case of an emergency.
- Food poisoning: Food poisoning can affect travellers to India. This can lead to cases referred to as “Delhi Belly.” When in India, drink only treated or bottled water. Avoid raw or uncooked food.
- Scams and pickpockets: Phone snatching, scams, and petty crime can occur in tourist-heavy areas or popular destinations. Try to keep your belongings close to you and avoid displaying expensive jewellery or electronics if you can.
- Heat management: India can experience significant heat waves. During a heatwave, stay indoors and in the shade as much as possible. Keep windows and curtains closed during the day and drink plenty of fluids.
- Animal safety: Going on a safari in India can be one of the most exciting parts of your holiday. On safari, keep a safe distance from animals and avoid provoking them.
- Respecting local customs: India has important dress customs and behavioural standards, especially at religious sites. Cows also roam freely in India, and there are laws protecting them from death and injury. Be sure to research any important customs in the areas you are visiting before travelling.

What to do before travelling to India
Any safe and fun holiday requires preparation before you head off. Here are a few steps you can take for a better journey:
- Travel Insurance: Buying Travel Insurance is an important step to a safer and more enjoyable trip to India. Be sure you understand what your policy covers you for, and follow all relevant conditions.
- Entry requirements: A visa is required to enter India. There are a range of visa options depending on your situation and your travel plans.
- Smartraveller: Check out the Australian government’s Smartraveller website for warnings and safety advice about travelling to India.
- Consult your health professional: Before leaving Australia, be sure you have spoken to your health professional about your travel plans. Speak to them about vaccinations and how to manage your pre-existing health conditions while on holiday. You should also research if any medications you plan to take are not permitted in India.
- Emergency contacts: Be sure you know the right emergency numbers for the police and other emergency services, as well as the contact details for the Australian Embassy. In India, 112 is the general emergency number.
- Currency: Some locations in India may not support card payments, especially in remote areas. Be sure you have enough rupees for your trip and know the best way to draw more if needed.

What our customers say
"Very happy with the Customer Service and the Policy. I recently took out insurance to travel on a cruise to various countries and travelled by Coach in India. I had to make a claim for myself and had no trouble with the claim. I just took another insurance policy to travel to Bali for 8 days. It was costly for both, however, my husband has health problems and it was worth the peace of mind."
